Literacy of the Quran: Surah Kahf

    Via Nouman Ali Khan

The purpose of Surah Kahf is to protect us from the biggest Fitnah- Dajjal.

    Surah Kahf: 1-6

[All] praise is [due] to Allah , who has sent down upon His Servant the Book and has not made therein any deviance.

[He has made it] straight, to warn of severe punishment from Him and to give good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a good reward

In which they will remain forever

And to warn those who say, ” Allah has taken a son.”

They have no knowledge of it, nor had their fathers. Grave is the word that comes out of their mouths; they speak not except a lie.

Then perhaps you would kill yourself through grief over them, [O Muhammad], if they do not believe in this message, [and] out of sorrow.

At the beginning of the Surah, after speaking of the greatness of the Quran, Allah tells us to warn those who say Allah has a son (Christians). Allah says that they have no knowledge and neither had their ancestors. They say nothing but lies and Allah highlights that the Christian faith will have affects that are very worrisome. The affects are so worrisome that you may kill yourself. But what should we be so worried about?

During the French Revolution, Christianity took a big hit, for once, people began to stand against the institution of the church or rather, the fundamental Christian creed.  Things were not making sense and the people began to rebel against the church. Christianity survived but the ideas were replaced with science. So the churches dropped all of their old ideas that the world was flat and etc. and replaced it with “scientific ideas”. But then contradictions began to rise, science started fighting with religion, and as a result, science began replacing Christianity. This is what we need to be worried about, and this has played in the community in several ways:

1)Now that “people” have been able to disproved Christianity, the number one religion, all religions are false. So now science is replacing religion and you either believe in science or you are devoted to your religion and if you believe in both you cannot incorporate both of them into your life as a whole. This has now become a war on religion in the name of science.

2)There is nothing scientific that can prove you have a soul but as a believer your focus is saving your soul. Now the focus has changed, if you can’t see it than you can’t believe it! The focus has shifted from God and the unseen to the universe and the seen. As a Muslim, you marvel at the universe but this only depicts the greatness of Allah. And you can see the direct effects of this mentality, it is all about the dunya, we will spend 6 days out of the week making money and once a week we will go to the church, synagogue, temple, or mosque. And when we “do” have our religious day, we come as late as we can to the jummah and leave as fast as we can, to spend the least amount of time at the masjid.

3)When more and more people began to realize the fault in the Christian faith, the Christian people then tried to keep it relevant by mentioning the scientific facts within the bible. So because the bible has science, it must be right and you can see this direct effect on Muslims. If you go to a dawah tables, most will mention all of the scientific facts in the Quran in order to prove that it is “right” but the Quran was correct before, the Quran does not need science to prove its legitimacy. This shows how many Muslims have accepted the superiority of science of revelation and now revelation has to compete with science.

4)There is a mix up in in the sects of their beliefs which is affecting our ummah’s view of this world. If we look at the Protestant view of the world, we can see that the Dunya is considered a good thing and the more you have, the more God loves you; the less you have the less God loves you. We have Muslims who seem to think the same thing, “I got approved for my lease, Allah loves me”,  “I got into medical school, Allah loves me” and this is not the case. A lot of dunya is not good and no dunya is not bad. And the story of the two gardens in this surah squashes this idea completely. Allah has given us everything we are provided and everything we have been given is a test.

Christians found a crookedness in their book which is the cause of these affects. If we look at the beginning of this surah, Allah mentions that there is no crookedness in the Quran and this book is not going anywhere! The world changes but the Quran (it’s teachings, etc.) are upright. What are Muslims view of the Quran?

-Many Muslims see the Quran as something special that should be respected. Even people hardly practice the religion will be quiet if it being read, will have it placed in a high bookshelf in their house. Overall, Muslims have a special  place for Quran in their hearts.

-Some Muslims see the Quran as a source of a lot of blessings. So when someone passes away, they will round everyone together to read Quran. Also, a family will have one hafdh in their family in order to get them all to Jannah, forgetting about the behaviors of their other children.

-The Quran is great for special occasions, If you recite Quran every day you are an extremist, and the Quran will protect and you won’t get into car accidents or whatever great calamity.

The Quran came to solve problems: help deal with people better, handle business appropriately and etc. The Quran was meant to be experienced in Salah, Allah is talking to you as your master and you are his slave. It is a conversation between you and Allah. The Quran is the best advice you will ever get.

  5. Which part of me is Islam?

    ON 05/12/12
    0 NOTES

Before I wore the Hijab, I’m pretty sure many would know how I used to dress (May Allah grant me forgiveness.) and then each day I would look into mirror, and as long as I look pretty, as long as I felt I was on par with the Westeners, I felt happy. I conformed to the society. But then each day I go home, I see my father on the Sajadah. & when I wake up in the middle of the night I still see my father on the Sajadah.
    I start to ask myself.

“Which part of me is Islam?”
And then I go list by list. My clothing? no. i look like the westeners. My words? no, how much do I dhkir? Instead, I sang and dance to We Found Love by the Westeners. I fast during Ramadhan? no, sometimes I fast but I didn’t pray so was my fast accepted when to begin with I am obliged to perform my Salah first? Did I walk with humility? no, I walked with so much confidence, I looked up high to the sky. Did I cover my Khummur over my Juyyub? no! I left my Juyyub open for others to see.
So which part of me is Islam? For a fact that I did not eat pork? I don’t eat pork so I’m a Muslim? Why did I leave that one not halal but proceed to do allllllllll the haram? Ya Allah May Allah grant me Forgiveness. And then I looked at myself into the mirror and I felt like a loser. A Sore Loser.
And then months down the road Alhamdullillah I wore the Hijab. & right till today, I still ask myself the same question. Which part of me is a Muslim? Do I know the stories of all our Prophets? Do I read the Mu’jizat yang teragung that Allah gifted us?
So my point is, ask yourself that every day. Which part of you is a Muslim?

If you call yourself a Muslim but did not perform Salah, start with that. Go to that area and work on it. Ikut kemampuan. If you do not the know the Wudhu, start with Wudhu. And then start with Al-Fatihah. And then try starting your day with Bismillahi Allahu Akhbar because Allah had grant you another day to live. Find other areas to work on. There must always be something lacking - semoga Allah memberi kami keredhaan untuk menjadi manusia yang lebih baik lagi.
If you reveal too much skin, start with covering them. Wear long pants and lower down your gaze. If you tend to fall and wear short dresses back, it’s okay! Bangun balik. Cuba lagi. If you fall again, it’s really okay! Bangun balik. Cuba lagi. and cuba. and cuba. and cubaaaa sampai it becomes a habit. And then bring yourself up to another level. Change is a beautiful process. If you are not ready for hijab, ask yourself, are you ready for Ajal?
May Allah grant me the ability to continue with my Hijab
& May Allah grant all of us goodness. Amin.
    Walllahu’alam.
